Our Missionaries Described

We understand there are varied backgrounds of men in the work. However, because we seek supporting churches, we must strive for certain standards so that all Baptist churches are comfortable in sending support.

We ask our brethren to understand the reasons why we set these requirements. We believe few Christians are offended by high standards. We also encourage grace and forbearance in the ministry.  If a missionary does not meet our standards, we do not judge his calling.  We prefer to allow the individual churches to determine whether they should be supported.

These standards are for missionaries who are being considered for support through IBM. We do not assert that these standards are the personal standards of every person supporting these men. For example, we require that a missionary be a married man, but we also understand that many churches support men who are single who are worthy of support and do a good work in the ministry.  We understand each church decides whom they support, and we believe all churches would allow these requirements.

Basic Standards

  • Baptist in doctrine and practice
  • Baptist baptism for husband and wife
  • Alignment and confirmation of our Statement of Faith
  • Married, man not divorced, wife not divorced
  • No criminal history
  • No church discipline
  • Ordained by a like-minded church
  • Proven ministry
  • Soul-winners
  • Be a supporter of Independent Baptist Missions
